The new fastag rules have been implemented from 17 February 2025 onwards which are focused towards preventing frauds and improving the toll payment efficiency. The Fastag Rules 2025 includes stricter rules towards blacklisted Fastags. The fastag has been made mandatory by the NHAI’s and there are fines imposed if the vehicle enters the lane without the Fastag and the fine is usually double the rate of the toll. Fastag Rules 2025

The Fastag is the Rectangular Sticker which has the barcode which is scanned using the RFID and the money is deducted when the monitor scans this bar code. The annual pass has been made available for the citizens and now the new rules have been implemented from 17 February 2025 onwards. The new rule has an annual pass for the private vehicles, mandatory KYC update and more strict enforcement of the existing regulations. As per the National Payment Corporation of India, the transactions shall be declined if the Fastag remains blacklisted for 70 minutes which is 1 hour before you reach the plaza and 10 minutes after crossing it. One has to ensure that sufficient balance is maintained and the KYC is updated to avoid any delays and penalties. 

Once the transaction is declined, you shall be facing a double toll charge. The last minute recharge will not prevent the payment issue and the sufficient balance in the account is much needed by all. The new update is to reduce fraud and will ensure a smooth transaction towards the toll. Fastag Annual Pass 2025

The annual pass states that the individuals can get a one year access to the National Highways by having a recharge of Rs 3000. The individuals can enjoy hassle free travelling without making the toll payment every time but in case your 200 trips are completed before the period, you will have to get the recharge done again. The trip means when you cross a single toll plaza, it shall be taken as a single trip.

Fastag New Rules 2025

• Blacklisted Fastag: if the fastag is under the blacklist for more than 1 hour before you reach the toll plaza the amount shall be declined. The same case happens if the Fastag is blacklisted for 10 minutes after crossing the plaza, the payment shall be cancelled. 
• There is a 70 minute grace period which is to rectify the Fastag status before you cross the toll booth.
• If the fastag is blacklisted, the immediate recharge will also not help and this could lead you towards the double toll charges. If you complete the recharge within 10 minutes of being at the toll plaza you might get a refund of the penalty. 
• The users can face some extra charges if the transactions have been processed for more than 15 minutes after the vehicle goes through toll.
• The banks can raise the chargebacks for the incorrect deductions which are related to the blacklisted or the low balance fastag after the cooling period of 15 days. The chargeback will result in some sort of rejection.

The changes are introduced for better toll collection and easy driving across the Nation.

Avoid Issues With Fastag Rules

• Ensure you have a sufficient balance in the Fastag account
• Recharge fastag one hour before traveling
• Check the status to ensure it isn’t under the black list. 
• Stay informed about the fastag status.

Unblock Blacklisted Fastag

• Recharge your account with the minimum balance
• Check the updated status
• Wait for the activation as it could take some time to have the recharge processed
• Make the plan in advance to avoid penalties and the difficulties of toll while you are travelling.

Fine Without Fastag 

Since 2021, it has been mandatory that you have a Fastag on your vehicle and still if you enter the lane without having a Fastag activated, you will be imposed a penalty. The penalty imposition shall be double the amount of toll to be actually paid by the individuals.
